For the last two months, I had the chance to review many websites, articles, and online podcasts that gave me a better understanding of the state of early care and education around the world. In many parts of the world, governments are realizing the importance of early education in healthy development, school readiness and overall health and well-being. Additionally, many countries are actively investing in quality, access, and equal opportunities for all children. I have gained insights about poverty and its effects on child development and the need for comprehensive services for optimal growth. In the developing countries, early care and education can be a gateway to providing services such as immunization clinics, health services, and parent education for marginalized and populations who otherwise would not receive those services. I have learned the incredible work international organizations such as UNICEF, UNESCO, and the WORLD FORUM are doing in bringing awareness to children’s plights and providing equal education opportunities for young girls, children living in rural areas, and children with special needs among others. Some of the international organizations are not only providing comprehensive services for children and their families, but they are also lobbying governments to support children’s right to education. It is comforting to know that these organizations are passionately working on behalf of children who need help the most.
While I was reviewing the websites of the international organizations I also found the lobbying aspect interesting.
