My favorite children's book

Today, I want to share my favorite children’s book and why I love it. I love The little blue engine that could. It reminds me of the children I work with. When they first start our program, some are shy and some are withdrawn. Some of the children are emotionally and physically affected.  Most of them are not ready to participate and be a child. Even tough they are not as optimistic as the little blue engine, together, we work hard on behavioral, social emotional and academic development. Slowly, but surely, they show the desire to come out of their shells and explore the world.  From being unsecured and withdrawn, they become confident. They reach out and accomplish tasks they thought were impossible. The book remains me the dormant potential that we all have. This fuels my passion in the early childhood field, the ability we have to as teachers and directors to help change children’s lives. I believe children have great potential and with supportive, caring adults, children can accomplish greatness. In addition, I am never bored. I laugh. I play, and I make a difference. What else could I want more? (A big fat paycheck at the end of the month). Please feel free to share your favorite children’s story and why?

  1. Great post, I can tell you are a passionate educator. The world needs more teachers like you!

I haven't read "The Little Blue Engine that Could", but I intend to look it up. It sounds like a great book!

  2. Nar,

I think you are my She-ro! I’m not kidding. I currently work in an affluent, private owned franchised childcare center and though I enjoy being there I want to do more. You are really out there making a difference for children who otherwise would not have the chance. I want to make a difference like that. When I lived in Chicago I once worked in a center that provided services for teenaged parents and I felt much more fulfilled there. Your postings are inspiring me to get out of my comfort zone and seek employment where I can feel that I am making a real difference as well. Please keep writing because it is making a difference in me!
